1. What should I do if I think someone has committed a crime?

1.  If the crime is in progress, you should immediately call 911 dispatch center and provide the dispatcher with all pertinent information.
2. If the crime is over, contact the law enforcement agency that services your area:

2. What kind of cases does CCAO handle?

1. The duties of the county attorney are mostly specified in MCA Title 7, Chapter 4, Part 27 and generally include:
   1. Felonies in the County
   2. Misdemeanors outside the city limits of Great Falls
   3. All citations written by the Montana Highway Patrol and Fish Wildlife & Parks
   4. Youth in Need of Care
   5. Youth Court
   6. The County Attorney also provides legal advice to all county elected officials and represents the county in all civil matters.

3. Can you give me legal advice on any topic?

• The Cascade County Attorney and staff cannot answer general legal questions for the public. There are a number of agencies who may be able to assist you. Please refer to the list of helpful links (on the right) to obtain free or low-cost legal assistance, or contact a private attorney.
• If you need the services if a criminal defense attorney, you can contact a private attorney or apply for the services of an attorney from the Office of the Statewide Public Defender. Their offices are located at 615 2^nd Ave N, Great Falls, MT 59401 Phone: 406-770-3200.

4. Can a defendant talk to prosecuting attorneys?

• If you are represented by an attorney, the prosecuting attorney assigned to your case will be unable to speak to you.
• If you are not represented by an attorney (pro se) then in most circumstances, yes.

5. How do I get my property or evidence back?

7. Who is Victim Witness?

• Victim-Witness Assistance Services The 30-year-old nonprofit organization in Great Falls and Cascade County provides information to victims of domestic violence, keeps track of offender’s cases, and keeps victims updated as cases proceed.

8. Who is AP&P, Adult Probation and Parole?

• AP&P is a branch of the Montana Department of Corrections. AP&P is responsible for supervising adult felony offenders.

10. I Want to File a Case

• Any criminal event needs to be reported to the appropriate agency, who will then refer it to the appropriate court.
• Any civil issue must be handled privately and or with the aid of a private attorney. Civil filings can be done at the Clerk of Court’s Civil Office.
