Due to a series of illnesses within our office, we are not open to the public at this time.  

  • The foyer will remain open for you to drop off any requests for documents, surveys or birth and death requests.
  • We will continue to eRecord throughout the day and will do over the counter recording between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
  • Documents requests are being fulfilled electronically.   Please email your requests to:  land_data_mail@cascadecountymt.gov.
  • Birth and Death requests are being printed and mailed out daily from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.  If you have an emergency, please contact us at 406-454-6801.
  • If you need access to our records vault, please contact us at 406-454-6808.  The vault is available by appointment only.

We apologize for the inconvenience and want you to know that we are trying to get back to being healthy and trying to keep you healthy, as well.

The Clerk and Recorder office records:


  • Administers District Court Reimbursement and Missile Snow Removal programs
  • Issues burn permits
  • Maintains county-wide accounting and financial reporting system, accounts payable, budgets and fixed asset control
  • Real estate and personal property documents, plats, surveys, birth and death certificates

Fee Increase

The 2019 Legislature has approved an increase in the fee for both birth and death certificates. As of July 1, 2019, the charge for a certified copy of a birth certificate will be $8 and the charge for a certified copy of a death certificate will be $5.

Solid Waste Credit

If you are turning in your unused punch cards for a solid waste credit on your curbside service, you will need to mail the unused card to:

Do not mail them along with your statement, as those statements now go to Arizona.
